Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers and heifers steady to firm with several near 600 lbs 2.00-3.00 higher. Slaughter cows 2.00-3.00 higher. Demand moderate to good. Supply moderate. Several consignments of good quality fall calves this week. The beef production chain is currently broken with astronomical beef cutout values (choice $428.99) screaming for more product the system simply doesn't have the labor to produce. We're told improvement is around the corner although it remains to be seen if or when we can achieve the needed harvest levels given the new worker safety measures.
