Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold mostly steady but spots up to 3.00 higher on the 650-800 lb yearlings. Demand was moderate to good for a light supply. Overall positive fundamentals for the cattle market are helping support feeder cattle. Demand for beef is very good and the USDA's recent cattle inventory report showed numbers slightly lower than a year ago with several areas to the North and West facing drought conditions. Also, July's Cattle On Feed report showed lower placements and higher marketings than the same period in 2020. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 higher.
