Compared to last week, steers sold uneven with the majority of calves under 600 lbs selling steady to 5.00 lower with most of the loss on the fleshier calves while those over 600 lbs sold steady to spots 5.00 higher. Heifer calves under 650 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher except those weighing 400-500 lbs 5.00-15.00 higher. Yearling heifers haven't been well tested lately, but compared to the last offering of straight loads from three weeks ago, 5.00-8.00 lower. The volatility in cattle futures has continued since the sale last week and was mostly lower again, putting pressure on the cash market for calves and yearlings. Demand was moderate to good for a heavy supply at the Annual Customer Appreciation Sale. The majority of the calves were weaned and vaccinated and several loads of yearlings were on hand. A portion of the calves were carrying excessive flesh and weren't as attractive to buyers.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
