Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to the last sale three weeks ago, steer calves under 700 lbs sold 40.00-50.00 higher and steers over 700 lbs sold 8.00-20.00 higher. Heifer calves under 650 lbs sold 20.00-30.00 higher and yearling heifers sold mostly steady. Demand was very good for the first sale of the year and buyers were aggressive to fill orders, especially for the steers that saw big gains since the last sale. Supply was heavy and the quality was very attractive with mostly long time weaned, reputation cattle and fancy loads of yearlings. It's all go again for the cattle market, with the board higher the first days of the year and cattlemen as bullish as ever it seems for stockers and feeders on overall tight numbers of cattle and good demand for beef.
