Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves traded steady to 4.00 higher. Yearling steers and heifers traded 2.00-3.00 higher. Demand was good on a heavy supply with several pot-load drafts including a 213 head package of 1,003 lb steers. The USDA's Cattle on Feed Report released Friday reported that compared to a year ago, Inventories were down 1 percent, Placements were down 9 percent and Marketings were down 2 percent. This bullish report along with continued gains on the futures board has made buyers a bit more optimistic. Steers averaged 699 lbs at $137.16/cwt while heifers averaged 569 lbs at $128.23/cwt.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
