Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, feeder steers traded 3.00-7.00 higher while feeder heifers traded uneven from 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher. Lightly tested yearlings were steady to firm. Demand was good on a moderate supply. Steers averaged 610 lbs at $142.85/cwt while heifers averaged 565 lbs at $125.25/cwt. Colder temperatures along with wet conditions, continue to keep price spreads wide between bawling calves and those long time weaned. The USDA's Cattle on Feed Report, released last week, compared to a year ago, showed Inventories 1 percent lower, Placements 2 percent higher and Marketings 1 percent higher.
