Compared to last week, the better tested weights of 400-699 lb. steer and heifer calves sold 15.00-20.00 lower. Demand was moderate on a light supply. Supplies were limited as volitility in the Cattle Futures markets kept many at home, waiting for some stability to return. The offering was mostly small packages of unweaned or short-weaned calves from smaller cow/calf operations. One stick-out sale was a draft of 41 head of 525 lbs. steers that brought 290.00/cwt. The USDA's Cattle on Feed Report, released Friday, reported Inventories were up 1 percent, Placements up 6 percent and Marketings down 11 percent. The Cattle Futures were sharply lower on Friday and Monday and closed mixed Tuesday with some modest gains on spot months.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
