As filed

Compared to last Wednesday, feeder steers under 600 lbs 2.00-4.00 lower, over 600 lbs steady. Feeder heifers under 450 lbs steady to 3.00 higher, over 450 lbs steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter cows 1.00-4.00 lower. Demand moderate to good. Supply moderate. A higher percentage of fall calves are coming into the mix with several good quality consignments this week 45+ days weaned. A special cow sale followed the feeders including a couple of dispersions of nice bred cows and a few pairs. The labor shortages at processing facilities has become a national story with the ongoing small harvest numbers building a huge backlog of fed cattle on the producer end and beef that may soon be unavailable or unaffordable for many consumers on the retail end. Wednesdays shortfall alone was around 49.000 head compared to a year ago. Unprecedented is probably not adequate to describe the rise in the choice cutout value that currently sits at $357.38
