Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 600 lbs sold 8.00-15.00 higher, over 600 lbs steady to 5.00 higher. Demand was good to very good for a moderate to heavy supply. Following big gains on Tuesday, cattle futures were up again Wednesday. The quality was attractive, buyers are optimistic and have good reason to be, while on the cow-calf side of things, producers seem more than happy to sell calves at the highest market conditions in years and lighten the load on their forage. Slaughter cows sold 4.00-10.00 higher on very good demand, bulls steady to 3.00 higher.

Slaughter cattle

By class and quality grade · $/cwt

Cull cows and bulls are graded, not weight-classed — grade is what moves the money here.
