As filed

Compared to last week: Slaughter steers steady to firm, heifers 1.00 lower in a narrow comparison. Holstein steers 2.00 lower. Moderate demand for this nice offering of new crop, calf fed steers and heifers. Jun Live Cattle futures lost almost 1.00 today but packers were more interested in buying cattle this week than they have been in recent weeks. Weighing condition was average, cattle rather clean now as they have shed off their winter coats and rubbed off the old tag. Estimated dressed cost looked to be in the 183.00-185.00 range. Packers that have not participated at all in the last several weeks were active bidders this week. 14 full loads of steers, 1 full load of heifers with the balance part loads and packages. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower than Monday's sale, bulls not well compared.

Slaughter lambs 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Slaughter ewes 5.00 to 10.00 lower. Feeder lambs too narrowly compared to offer a good comparison. Moderate demand for slaughter lambs, light to moderate demand for slaughter ewes and feeder lambs. Fewer farmer feeder buyers in town to bid on the feeder lamb offering. Good demand for a nice string of high quality young open ewes that went back to the country.
