Compared to three weeks ago: Slaughter steers and heifers 1.00 to 3.00 higher, Holstein steers 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Moderate demand from packer buyers for this large offering of steers and heifers, light demand from two way buyers as few of them were present. With the recent moisture and above freezing temps, cattle were dirty to very dirty. The quality was attractive but yields were reduced due to the dry tag on their hides, many consignments carrying from one-half to one percent tag. Without the two way buyers helping to push the market along packers did not have to try very hard to get cattle bought as the market was not very active. The market was most active on straight black hided cattle, packers showing less interested in mixed colored cattle. Weighing condition was average to full, estimated dressed cost looked to run from 194.00-197.00. Slaughter cows unevenly steady with Monday, bulls steady.

Slaughter lambs steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter ewes were uneven, the fleshy ewes were 3.00 to 4.00 higher while the thin ewes were sharply higher. Feeder lambs not well compared as most light lambs went to slaughter accounts. Moderate to good demand for slaughter lambs, good demand for slaughter ewes and for feeder lambs. There were several strings of bred ewes that were met with good demand.
