Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded mostly steady to firm. Not enough comparable sales on steer or heifer calves for an adequate market trend. Slaughter cows and bulls traded mostly steady on a light test. Trading activity was moderate to active on moderate to good buyer demand. The majority of the supply consisted of smaller packages of weaned calves, with some good quality bunches of bred cows. Quality was attractive. According to the Cattle Market Report and Analysis, the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles remain extremely dry. With the higher wheat prices, farmers will want to remove grazing cattle earlier in the season to improve wheat yields.
