Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week: Not enough comparable sales on feeder steers or heifers for a market trend but a lower undertone was noted. Steer and heifer calves traded mostly firm to 5.00 higher. Slaughter cows traded mostly steady to 1.00 lower on a light test. Demand for feeders is still limited due to the feedlots being full. According to the last Cattle on Feed report, the inventory was 1 percent above October 1, 2022, which is the second highest October 1 inventory since the series began in 1996. Additionally, placements in feedlots during September totaled 2.21 million head, 6 percent above 2022.
