Compared to last Thursday at the same market, not enough feeder cattle last week for accurate trends, however a higher undertone was noted for larger offerings. Quality was more attractive this week due to increased offerings. Thursday live cattle futures ended with losses of $0.40 to $1.15, led by in delivery August. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls weak. Trade active with good and good buyer attendance. Weekly Export Sales data showed beef bookings were 10,444 MT for the week that ended 8/19. That was down from 11k MT booked the previous week and was about half of the same week last season. Japan was the top buyer, as well as the top destination with 3,800 MT and 5,400 MT respectively. All beef shipments were 18,690 MT bringing the YTD total to 598,091 MT. That remains at record pace.
