Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to the last sale 10/4-5/23: Current FOB sales lightly tested. Feeder steers 2.00-6.00 lower. Feeder heifers not well tested but a sharply lower undertone was noted. Bulk of the calves sold for future delivery. Un-weaned calves sold with a lower undertone, while weaned offerings were firm. Demand and seller interest light to moderate as Cattle futures sold off sharply lower the day of the sale. Cattle on Feed report due out Friday and early expectations are bearish with a higher placement number and less marketings. Current conditions are dry across much of the winter wheat country but forecasts show good rains for a week from now. Supply included 72 percent from South Central; <1 percent North East; 6 percent West; 11 percent South East and 10 percent from the North Central region. Current delivery is 14 days from the last day of the video sale and is up to and including November 2, 2023. Deliveries are current thru June of 2024.

Source: USDA AMS · Oklahoma City, OK. Prices are as filed, F.O.B. at origin, with the buyer taking freight — they are not comparable to a spot ring price and never enter a barn average. Weights are USDA’s estimates — these cattle had not been weighed when they sold. Delivery months differ between lots; a price for one month is not a price for another. Head is summed from the lots as reported.
