As filed

Compared to the last sale three weeks ago, steers and heifers sold mostly 2.00 to 5.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower. Several loads of yearling cattle available this week, mostly heifers, met with improved demand. A few weak spots detected on steers under 600 lbs, mostly due to a light offering. The big story in the beef sector currently is the greatly reduced processing capacity over the past couple weeks, sending wholesale prices soaring to historic values but bringing fat cattle trade to a near halt. Packer margins look to be near all time highs by the end of the week as the rising product value totally negates the light kill schedule. Supply and demand moderate.
