Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers steady to 6.00 lower with best demand near 550 lbs. Feeder heifers 1.00-4.00 lower. Slaughter cows 2.00-3.00 lower. Demand moderate. Supply moderate. Better quality feeder offering this week with several nice consignments of calves along with a few packages of yearlings. We'll hopefully find better days later in the year as fed cattle numbers decline but for now the industry is caught in the crossfire of still rising feed costs and a sort of packer utopia where beef demand continues to outstrip production and insufficient processing capacity leaves us with a live product available at a price that does not reflect its value.
